051 Greece - Athens - Arch of Hadrian

Arch of Hadrian (131 or 132 AD)
"Hadrian's Gate"

May 9, Day 5. Flight from Rome to Athens.

The Arch of Hadrian spanned an ancient road from the center of Athens to the complex of structures on the eastern side of the city.

There were two inscriptions on the arch, facing in opposite directions, naming both Theseus and Hadrian as founders of Athens.

The Acropolis is visible through the arch.
